Donald Trump: Obviously, people know that when I said that, it was a joke
Back during the election campaign, US President Donald Trump said he would end the Russian-Ukrainian war in 24 hours. There were also statements about the end of the war in 100 days. Instead, for the second time, he says that he was only joking and spoke “conditionally” about the rapid end of the conflict. He said this in an interview with Time, according to Glavkom.
“Well, I said it figuratively, and I said it as an exaggeration to emphasize my point, and you know, it certainly ends up in fake news. Obviously, people know that when I said it, it was said in jest, but it was also said that it would be put to an end,” says Donald Trump.
Trump rejects the idea that the end of the war will take a long time. He also repeated his words that if he had been president, there would have been no war in Ukraine and Hamas would not have attacked Israel on October 7, 2023.
“This war has been going on for three years. This is Biden’s war. This is not my war. I have nothing to do with it. I would never have had this war. This war would never have started. Putin would never have done it. October 7 (the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 – Glavkom) would never have started,” the US president said.
Earlier, Donald Trump had already called his campaign promise to resolve Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine “in 24 hours” a joke. He said this in an interview with journalist Sheryl Attkisson.
Atkisson noted the difficulty of resolving a full-scale Russian invasion, while reminding Trump that during the campaign he said he would “end this war in 24 hours.” “Well, I was being somewhat sarcastic when I said that. I would not have ended it. What I really meant was that I would like to end it, and I think I will succeed,” the US president explained.
As reported, after taking office, Trump set his special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, the task of ending the war in 100 days.
